Vandy’s Senior Day Spoiled

Well, I’d have to say it’s our biggest throw-away of the season… The game was ours, then we stopped playing, South Carolina got up nine, and (for some reason) we were down 2 with 12 second remaining.

I know, the game doesn’t matter much in terms of NCAA seeding. But it leaves a sour taste in my mouth to see Jermaine go out like that at Memorial. He deserved to have a win today, and didn’t get it.

In pregame, I said we had to contain Devan Downey. And in the first half, that’s just what we did. But he went off in the second half, including a big-time 3 that ended up being the dagger.

Anyways, I don’t have much for postgame (still shell-shocked we lost). Feel free to use the comment board as a thread to vent your feeling/rants. I’ll reply to everything you say…

Senior Day Battle

Hard to believe this is going to be Jermaine’s final home game, I still remember his sophomore days – with Shan Foster dominating from long range, and AJ Ogilvy dominating the post as only a freshman… Man, the season just come and go, don’t they?

Well, let’s get to tonight. South Carolina has had a unsuccessful, disappointing season this year. That being said, there is always the Devan Downey threat that you have to worry about. And you have to understand, he is going to get his points regardless of how good your defense is. What you have to do is contain him – not stop him, just contain him.

South Carolina has something to worry about, too. That’s Jermaine Beal. Personally, I think he’s going to go off on Senior Day. He want’s to make a final impression on the home crowd.

The fact of the matter is, we are better than South Carolina – especially at home. As long as nothing crazy happens, we should win.

Vandy Basketball Down the Stretch

Before I start, I got to say I’m sorry for the recent dip in posting. As most of you know, I like to keep an active site, and I’m going to try to get back on track. Today I’ll be doing a look-ahead to our final games of the season, similar to the one I did not to long ago. Enjoy. Continue reading

Vanderbilt Comes Back to Win at ‘Bama

I know, this post in incredible late. My internet has been down since Monday and I’ve been unable to post on OD. But hey, I’m back, and ready to throw some Commie-knowledge at ya’.

By now, I’m sure we all know that Vanderbilt was able to come away with a win at Alabama last night, 65-64. Some call the one-point win a little disappointing, but I call it a victory. It’s hard to win on the road in the SEC and we did, so how could I be disappointed?

That being said, I am disappointed. Not by the margin of victory, but by the free throws. All year, we’d shot amazing from the line and then we just lay an egg against a team we’re better than. John Jenkins had only missed two free throws ALL YEAR, and he was 0-3 last night. C’mon man! As a team, we got to the line 37 times and only hit about half of them.

But you know what? I’m going to look on the bright side of things. Commodores get their 7th straight win, start 2-0 in SEC play, and their 13-3 on the season. Besides, it’s not like the Tide are a bad team.

Commies travel to USC on Saturday.

Top 5: Vandy @ USC

1. SEC Refs. They really are the NCAA’s worst. That was an obvious fumble at the beginning of the game, the ball was clearly falling through his arms before his knee touched down. As for the controversal USC touchdown… I’m sure you can tell by the cross-out that I’m shocked by the call– his foot was no where near in-bounds.

2. Larry Smith. I’m often known as the Smith-defender, but I’ve got to start pointing out his inaccurate throws. Most notably the deep-miss to Jamie Graham and the short-miss to John Cole on our final drive of the game.

3. Warren Norman. Even in the darkest of days, I can find a ray of light. And today, that light would be Warren Norman. Who is, no question, the most talent running back and return man I’ve ever seen my ‘Dores have.

4. John Cole. I really think Cole should be more involved in our gameplan. He’s by far our most outstanding wideout and seems to be the only catching-consistent guy on the field.

5. Play Calling. This is a joke. We got up by 3 and from then on out we played sissy-ball, running it three consecutive times and then punting it away. See how that worked out for us? We also went away from the QB-keeper (which was working) and started giving it to Jared/Warren every time– an obvious give-away to the USC defense.

Overall, I’m depressed at the outcome… No way around it, I’m mentally depressed. We’ve lost all of our pride and the defense is starting to give-up after watching all of the offense’s 3-and-out drives.
